At least 24 people were killed and 47 injured when Myanmar’s military used motorised paragliders to bomb a candlelight vigil during a Buddhist festival in Chaung U township, central Myanmar.
The peaceful gathering marked the Thadingyut full moon and protested military conscription and the jailing of Aung San Suu Kyi.
The attack, part of the junta’s escalating air campaign, reflects renewed military momentum. Amnesty International condemned the bombing as part of a “disturbing trend” of airborne assaults on civilians and urged regional leaders to act as Myanmar’s junta pushes ahead with plans for elections.
