A multi-billion-euro tourism development linked to Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump is facing mounting opposition in Albania, where environmental groups and activists say the project threatens protected coastal habitats.
The proposal includes luxury hotels, villas, apartments and a marina across the Narta Lagoon area and the nearby island of Sazan, a former military base on Albania’s Adriatic coast. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has backed the venture, describing it as a major opportunity to attract high-end tourism and strengthen the country’s economic growth.
Critics, however, argue the development risks damaging one of Albania’s most important biodiversity areas, which serves as a key migration route for bird species including flamingos. Protesters have staged demonstrations in Tirana, while environmental organisations have condemned land-clearing and construction work already underway.

The controversy has intensified after Albania’s anti-corruption agency opened an investigation related to the project. Questions have also been raised about land ownership and planning approvals as debate continues over the future of one of the country’s most pristine coastal regions.
