Senior BBC editor who resigned over Gaza documentary scandal gets an OBE

Charlotte Moore OBE draws criticism

The New Year Honours List in the UK has triggered controversy after former BBC chief content officer Charlotte Moore received an OBE despite having stepped down months after a Gaza documentary scandal that drew sharp criticism of the broadcaster.

The programme, aired while Moore was in one of the BBC’s most senior editorial roles, was found by media regulator Ofcom to be “materially misleading” for failing to disclose that its narrator was the son of a Hamas leader, prompting an apology, its removal from BBC platforms, and an on-air correction.

Moore, who later left her £475,000-a-year role to join Sony Pictures Television in a move the BBC said was unrelated, said she accepted the award “on behalf of colleagues”.

The UK honours list has also drawn criticism for recognising other contentious figures, including West Yorkshire Police chief constable John Robins, accused by critics of discriminatory hiring practices, and National Trust director-general Hilary McGrady, who has faced backlash over claims the charity has become politicised under her leadership.

  1. Paid £475,000 a year ! The UK public are forced to pay for such outrageous salaries through the compulsory TV licence that funds the BBC.
Time people showed their contempt for the elitist attitude of BBC hierarchy and its government propaganda agenda by totally defunding it through cancelling their TV licence and switching off their TVs permanently.
