The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled 6-3 in favour of the Trump administration, allowing the government to resume deporting migrants to countries other than their homeland, even if it exposes them to potential harm.
The decision overturns a lower court’s requirement that migrants be given a chance to argue they could face torture or death in a third country.
“Liberal” justices strongly dissented, calling the ruling a “gross abuse” that rewards “lawlessness.”
The case involved eight migrants from countries including Myanmar, South Sudan, and Cuba, with the administration labelling them dangerous criminals—though their lawyers disputed those claims.
