Republican State Senator Terri Bryant voiced concerns during a hearing, highlighting the financial and administrative burdens of continually updating terminology related to criminal activity across various agencies.
Opponents like Republican State Senator Steve McClure further contend that the bill diminishes the accountability of those who commit crimes, suggesting that it overly sympathises with criminals at the expense of their victims. “This trend of apologising for criminals, who choose to commit crimes and harm victims who had no choice in their suffering, is absolutely incredible,” McClure stated.
