Watch: Merriam Webster’s change definition of ‘vaccine’ to remove phrase ‘increase immunity’

George Orwell's Newspeak is happening at 'America's most trusted online dictionary'

The self-proclaimed ‘America’s most trusted online dictionary for English’, Merriam Webster’s has changed its definition of ‘vaccine’ to remove reference to ‘increased immunity.’

Merriam Webster's newspeak news

Critics have accused the dictionary of ‘Newspeak’, the fictional language of the totalitarian government in George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984, where ‘war means peace’ and ‘freedom means slavery’.

In this video US comedian and social commentator Jimmy Dore shows the original definition was:

  • ‘a preparation of killed microorganisms, living attenuated organisms, or living fully virulent organisms that is administered to produce or artificially increase immunity to a particular disease.

The new definition does not include the bold text above, which is what most people believe a vaccine should do. Other amendments include the experimental mRNA technology within the ambit of the new definition.
