Approximately 1,000 people are expected at Opaea Marae near Taihape for the tangi of Te Pāti Māori MP Takutai Moana Natasha Kemp, who passed away last week after battling kidney disease.
Kemp has been lying at the marae since Saturday, and her burial will be held today.
Labour leader Chris Hipkins and party members attended the tangi, while Prime Minister Christopher Luxon opted not to, saying the focus should remain on Kemp’s memory.
A date for the Tāmaki Makaurau by-election has yet to be announced.

Kemp has been lying at the marae ….
Really?
I would imagine she’s been lying at the marae all her adult life.
Stinking racist cockroach. Good riddance.
