A high-ranking emergency services worker will remain anonymous for now, after additional charges were filed in a child exploitation case.

The man, who is in his 50s, appeared in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday afternoon facing five existing charges involving the possession and export of child exploitation material, originally brought by Customs earlier this year.

His interim name suppression was set to expire, but his lawyer successfully applied for an extension. Ruane told the court four new charges had been added in recent days.

The accused is expected to enter pleas when he returns to court next month.
