Trump issues threat to Afghanistan over Bagram air base

The US president said “bad things” will happen if the Taliban doesn’t surrender the key airfield.

US President Donald Trump has threatened unspecified reprisals if the Taliban government in Afghanistan fails to hand over the Bagram Air Base, which was abandoned during the American withdrawal.

American troops hastily evacuated the base in July 2021, a month before Taliban fighters seized Kabul, toppling the UN-backed government and ending the 20-year US occupation of the country.

Trump said earlier that he is seeking to reestablish control over the airfield, which he described as being close to China’s nuclear facilities.

“If Afghanistan doesn’t give Bagram Airbase back to those that built it, the United States of America, BAD THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN!!!” the president wrote on his Truth Social platform on Saturday.

The Taliban has ruled out the return of American forces, while China backed Afghanistan’s sovereignty and accused Washington of “stirring up tension and confrontation in the region.”

Although Trump negotiated the US withdrawal during his first term, he blamed the rapid Taliban takeover on former President Joe Biden, calling the chaotic departure of the last American soldiers “a disgrace.”

Originally built by the Soviet Union, the Bagram airfield was modernized and expanded during the US occupation, serving as America’s largest outpost in Afghanistan. Trump has repeatedly claimed that China is secretly using the base, a charge denied by both Beijing and the Taliban.

  1. The sheer arrogance of this self appointed ‘Emperor of the World’ is truly off the charts. Perhaps he needs reminding that the spoils of war go to the victor.

    • Bro, American tanks rolled over the dunes and took Afghanistan in less than a month back in 2001. And the yanks have had 24 years of upgrades to their war machines. In what world are the taliban going to do anything but cave.

      In what world, Sir?

        • And how long did it take them to get it back? Twenty years?

And didn’t they only get it back because Orange man had promised his voting base it would happen?

And who were the people clinging onto American planes as they were taking off rather than staying behind to live under a desert death cult once again?

  2. Well it wasn’t built by the US Frumpy, so you don’t own it and its not on your sovereign soil, so tough luck. Unless you want to re-invading Afghanistan and get more of your second rate soldiers arses kicked by the tough nut Afghan’s, who wont tolerate the US’s imperialist crap.

My advice, talk to the spineless NZ government, if you want someone to bend over for you. Heck they already let your sleazy FBI into our country, without the consent of the people of New Zealand and they are prepared to hand you a NZ resident, after a thoroughly questionable legal case.

As far as doormats go, they are top shelf!!!!

    • The FBI was already here
But this was full on and frontal in an obvious domestic expansion of their powers
We are all being spied on and have been for some time
All anchored to the Five Eyes Alliance
      Infiltration takeover and control
