Auckland FC stun Phoenix with nine-man derby triumph

Auckland FC pulled off a sensational 1-2 victory over Wellington Phoenix at Sky Stadium, clinging on with just nine men to secure their fourth straight NZ A-League derby win.

Jesse Randall and Sam Cosgrove struck early to put Auckland ahead, before Phoenix forward Ifeanyi Eze equalised with a long-range effort.

Despite red cards to Dan Hall and Logan Rogerson, and captain Jake Brimmer dislocating his shoulder, Auckland’s defence held firm under relentless pressure.

Phoenix dominated possession but couldn’t find a way through, leaving Auckland top of the table heading into the international break.
