Parliamentary Service says it is bolstering security measures despite restructuring parts of its office security operations and ongoing vacancies within its cyber security leadership team.
A unit responsible for security systems in MPs’ electorate and community offices, including CCTV and electronic access controls, has been absorbed into a broader office support structure to improve coordination and streamline office management.
Chief executive Rafael Gonzalez-Montero told state-funded media the wider parliamentary security team overseeing precinct protection, intelligence monitoring, and MP safety remained unchanged, as concerns grow over increasing threats against politicians.
He also confirmed the cyber security division has been operating under interim leadership since December, while two senior IT management roles vacated late last year are still being filled alongside a new leadership position focused on digital security.
