England wrapped up a convincing 115-run victory over New Zealand on the fourth morning of the opening Test at Lord’s, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Chasing 254 on a difficult pitch that heavily favoured seam bowlers, the Black Caps resumed at 55-5 but were dismissed for 138, with Gus Atkinson claiming 5-30. Glenn Phillips offered some resistance with an unbeaten 44, but England quickly closed out the match after a brief seventh-wicket partnership.
The contest was dominated by bowlers throughout, with all 40 wickets falling in just 166 overs, making it one of the shortest completed Tests in history.
While the Black Caps were hampered by missed chances in the field, England will be encouraged by the performances of returning seamer Ollie Robinson and debutant opener Emilio Gay as they seek to secure the series in the second Test at The Oval.
