Stokes dropped from Second Test over curfew breach

Ben Stokes nightclub altercation

England captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson have been withdrawn from selection for next week’s second Test against New Zealand at The Oval while the England and Wales Cricket Board investigates an alleged breach of team rules.

The pair reportedly stayed out beyond the team’s midnight curfew following England’s victory at Lord’s and were present at a nightclub where a member of the England security team was allegedly assaulted by Samoan-born Saracens rugby player Totoa Auvaa.

Former captain Joe Root will take charge of the side on an interim basis despite vice-captain Harry Brook being available.

England have also strengthened their squad with the inclusion of Jofra Archer and Jordan Cox as they prepare for the second Test against the New Zealand national cricket team.
