New Zealand Rugby has confirmed the appointment of Tony Brown as an All Blacks assistant coach from 2028, signing the highly regarded mentor to a two-year deal after the conclusion of the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
Brown, who is currently part of South Africa’s coaching staff, was identified as a key addition by incoming High Performance Director Don Tricker, with NZR citing his international reputation and desire to return home to contribute to New Zealand rugby.
NZR chief executive Steve Lancaster said the move was aimed at bringing top coaching talent back to New Zealand, while noting that the future All Blacks head coach will determine the structure and responsibilities of the coaching group.
Current All Blacks coach Dave Rennie was consulted throughout the process and supports the appointment, with discussions on the next head coaching process expected to take place following the 2027 Rugby Championship.
