ACT would begin raising the superannuation age in 2027 and make KiwiSaver returns tax-free, as part of a fiscal plan targeting a $13.6 billion surplus by 2031.
ACT’s Paul Henry told RCR the Government needed significant savings to avoid losing control of the country’s finances. The pension age would rise by three months annually, reaching 67 in 2035 and would include exemptions for long-term manual workers. Henry acknowledged it would need coalition negotiation, with Winston Peters opposed.
Tax-free KiwiSaver returns would cost about $1 billion a year, funded by other savings. Other proposals include cutting disability benefit spending by $286 million a year within four years through tighter eligibility checks, reducing government departments and cutting funding for bodies including the Climate Change Commission.
Henry, a former National Party candidate, called National’s “two ticks blue” campaign “completely illogical” on current polling. “They are sailing the right-wing vote right down the river with that policy,” he said. Williams called the strategy “utterly and completely wrong”.

The problem in NZ is we are besieged by parasites
Who have turned over all the stones
And who continue to turn over all the stones
Dispensation for some long term manual workers in good
Because otherwise to some people this could be a death sentence
How original ACT, just parroting Australia. Given the rampant age-ism in NZ, it wont work as it does in AU, where its not too hard to get a job when you are older. That said, this is also in real terms a massive tax increase so claims not to be as bad as Labour/Greens starts to look a bit thin.
Pri”#s could try tackling corporate and government corruption before making the pleb class work harder for longer. ACT and the other grifters can take that that idea for free.
No need to for further encouragement, I already wasn’t voting for them
P.H. looks typical for his ‘electorate’ in his Anne Frank glasses…
Was going to vote ACT but I’m back to NZFIRST.
At 58 to have my pension age pushed out by another 2 years, well I just can’t do it. I’ve worked since I was 14. I’ve had it.
Instead of pulling the carpet out from people like me how about going after the 3003 people UNDER a the age of 65 who are currently receiving a pension because they piggybacked on their partners pension. 45 of them are under the age of 44. 3 are under 30!!!!! These 3003 people cost the country 61.5 MILLION dollars A YEAR.
Then there’s the 33,000 pensioners earning between 100,000 and 200,000 a year AND a getting a pension. That’s 675,000,000 a year in pensions on people earning over 100K! 675 MILLION! WTF!!!!!🤬
Then there’s the 9,000 pensioners earning over 200,000 a year! Yes that’s right folks we’re paying 184,000,000 a year on pensions on people earning over 200K a year!!!! 184 MILLION!!!!!
That’s nearly ONE BILLION dollars a year on people who shouldn’t receive a pension OR who DONT NEED IT!.
But no, come after plebs like me whose body has had it and have worked in one way shape or form since I was 14 years old. Well sorry everyone but F you! I’m voting for a party that HONOURS people like me by not pulling out the carpet just as I get to the home straight. Party vote NEW ZEALAND FIRST!
I normally enjoy listening to RCR and I am a big fan of Paul Henry and Peter Williams, but to listen to these two declare the retirement age should be put up immediately when that would not affect either of them absolutely made my blood boil.
As I said in my other post, this country spends nearly 1 BILLION dollars a year on people who could work and are under 65 getting pensions, plus the group earning over 100 and 200K a year – arguably ALL of those people should NOT be getting a full pension whilst telling ME at 58 that i suddenly need to work TWO MORE YEARS while they float around laughing all the way to the bank. GET F’D. Not voting ACT now you absolute dumb arses. Typical boomer behaviour. They actually just proved how out of touch with reality you all are in ACT. What a shame.
Toughen up on the lazy people and the ones having their cake and eating it too. If you’re earning over 2000k a week YOU DONT NEED AN F’ING PENSION especially at the expense of others not fortunate enough to be one of those blessed boomers. Bordering on being carpet baggers…..
Anyway definitely voting NZ First. Thanks for helping me make my decision Paul and Peter.
