Mowbray backs overhang strategy to keep centre-right in power

images

Businessman Harry Mowbray is urging centre-right voters to split their votes, backing National electorate candidates while giving their party vote to ACT or NZ First.

Speaking to RCR, he showed how National could win more electorate seats than its party vote entitlement, creating an “overhang” to help expand and strengthen the coalition. “You have to think coalition, and then you have to vote coalition,” he said.

Mowbray said while the strategy would distort proportional representation, it could also secure a centre-right government if enough voters adopted the approach.
