A federal jury has ruled that Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster, operated as an illegal monopoly and overcharged customers, following a closely watched trial with major implications for the live music industry.
Jurors found fans were charged an extra $1.72 per ticket, forming the basis for potential damages, while remedies could include forcing the company to sell parts of its business or separate from Ticketmaster.
The case, initially brought by the U.S. Department of Justice, continued to trial led by multiple state attorneys general after federal officials withdrew, despite earlier settlement attempts.
The dispute stems from long-standing concerns about competition and pricing, intensified after ticketing failures during Taylor Swift Eras Tour drew widespread backlash.
