Fake admiral who laid wreath at Welsh Remembrance Day ceremony fined

Jonathan Carley convicted over fake admiral controversy

A 65-year-old man has pleaded guilty to wearing a naval uniform and medals without permission after attending a Remembrance Sunday ceremony in Llandudno, north Wales.

Jonathan Carley wore a Rear Admiral-style uniform with 12 medals, joined the official procession, laid a wreath and saluted the memorial on November 9 last year.

Concerns were raised after photographs circulated online showing medals that are not known to have been awarded together, leading to his arrest on November 14.

Carley told police the uniform originated from his time in the cadets but had been altered, and that the medals were bought online. At Llandudno Magistrates’ Court, he was fined £500 and ordered to pay prosecution costs and a surcharge.

  1. Historically money could influence the granting of noble titles, even if they weren’t officially “for sale.”
Monarchs sometimes awarded peerages (which gave seats in the House of Lords) in exchange for large loans, political support, or financial contributions.
Direct legal purchase of peerages was never formally allowed, but in practice, it sometimes happened through political patronage.
Manorial lordships and other minor titles could be bought and sold, but these never granted a seat in the House of Lords.

    • In Europe, aristocratie was meant to raise an army, go to war and defend the country. Therefore they had a ” fief with revenues and were ” aristocrats”
Only after the Reform jews were able to buy ” tittles” and parrot aristocrats in Great Britain only.
In France after the Revolution under Napoleon.
Originally, catholics and orthodoxes were forbidden to practice usury, but not protestants and jews.
