Twenty-year-old Alfie Franco has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 23 years for the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Syrian refugee Ahmad Al Ibrahim in Huddersfield, U.K.
The unprovoked attack occurred in broad daylight after Franco, under the influence of multiple drugs, took offence at Ahmad walking past his girlfriend.
CCTV footage showed Franco calmly preparing his flick knife before luring the unarmed teenager closer and stabbing him in the neck.
Judge Howard Crowson described the act as “pointless and motiveless,” rejecting Franco’s claim of self-defence.
Ahmad, who fled war-torn Homs and had only recently arrived in the UK, was remembered by his uncle as a kind, ambitious student who dreamed of becoming a doctor.
