Afternoon commuters on Auckland’s Tamaki Drive were treated to an unusual sight today when a 65-year-old man was spotted cycling naked along the waterfront road.

Police were called just after 1.40pm following reports of the unclothed rider making his way through one of the city’s busiest and most upmarket stretches.

Officers quickly converged on the area, with witnesses reporting as many as eight police staff and four vehicles responding to the incident. The man was arrested for offensive behaviour, police confirmed.

Locals commenting on a community Facebook page said it wasn’t the first time the pensioner had been seen riding in the nude, with several claiming to have spotted him in the neighbourhood earlier this week.

  1. It is not illegal to be nude in public.
What is illegal is to cause offense.
And that offense has to be far above of just being indignated.

  2. What a ridiculous situation! Eight cops in four cars to apprehend a 65 year-old on a bike who was doing nothing illegal! Must have been a slow day at the office! In hot weather, why not ditch the clothes? No reasonable person is offended by seeing a naked body. Whoever complained really needs to get a life! And the cops need to sort out their priorities. Geeze!
