Jamie Komoroski, 27, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a tragic DUI crash in April 2023 that killed bride Samantha Miller on her wedding night.
Komoroski, who was found to be more than three times over the legal alcohol limit, crashed her rental car into a golf cart carrying Miller and her husband, Aric Hutchinson, as they left their reception in Folly Beach, South Carolina.
The collision, caused by Komoroski speeding at 65 mph in a 25 mph zone, left Hutchinson with severe injuries, including broken legs, facial fractures, and brain trauma. During her sentencing, Komoroski expressed deep remorse and accepted full responsibility for her actions, stating she would carry the guilt for life.
Miller’s death has left her husband and family grappling with loss and trauma.
Aric Hutchinson spoke in court, describing the emotional toll of losing his wife just hours after their vows, while Miller’s mother recounted the heartbreaking memory of their final embrace at the wedding reception.
In addition to the criminal sentencing, a $1.3 million settlement from a wrongful death lawsuit has been partially awarded to Miller’s family, holding Komoroski, several bars that served her alcohol, and the rental car company accountable. While the settlement provides some restitution, Hutchinson and his family remain focused on coping with the enduring pain of their loss.
