Government officials and fuel retailer Z Energy have sought to reassure the public that New Zealand has sufficient fuel reserves despite escalating conflict in the Middle East and threats to the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) said New Zealand meets its International Energy Agency requirement of holding at least 90 days of oil stocks through a combination of domestic reserves and overseas “oil ticket” agreements with the United States, United Kingdom and Japan.
Under the Minimum Stockholding Obligation introduced in January 2025, importers must also hold minimum in-country supplies of diesel, jet fuel and petrol, with diesel requirements set to increase by 2028.
MBIE said importers routinely exceed minimum levels and have additional shipments en route, while Z Energy confirmed there is no impact on fuel supply and customers can continue filling up as normal.

But the fuel price still goes up 8c per litre
We have plenty of fuel in reserve ……..but we’ll raise it to 6.53 per litre at midnite wednesday – just to “even out the costs” because food prices at the supermarkets “need” to rise by 27.632 % by next tuesday.
Bollocks
‘experts’ ?
‘Oil tickets’ are worthless when source countries can’t access oil to refine. These people think we’re stupid.
Most people are stupid sadly.

Bureaucrats say…OK, we know it’s fudge people 🤣
Fuel prices will rise even higher with addditional refineries closed after false flag Israeli attacks on Gulf countries
At what price?
Apparently Aussie are down 50% in what their stated fuel reserves are meant to be. Not so many refiners over there either, mostly imported fuel now. Mickey Mouse government over there…
