A young boy from Kaikohe East School in Northland was airlifted to Auckland’s Starship Hospital in critical condition after becoming suddenly unwell late Tuesday morning.
Emergency services, including an ambulance, rapid response unit, and helicopter, responded swiftly after staff called 111 and contacted the child’s family.
The school said its emergency procedures worked smoothly and praised staff for their quick action, adding that classmates’ families were contacted to support upset students.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his whānau,” the school said in a statement.
