‘Constitutional Barbarian’: Taxpayers’ Union slams Coster for lobbying on alcohol regulations

Andrew Coster news

The Taxpayers’ Union has condemned Police Commissioner Andrew Coster for his recent comments that appear to lobby the government to change alcohol regulations.

Taxpayers’ Union spokesman Jordan Williams said, “Andrew Coster is acting as a constitutional barbarian. There is a long-standing constitutional convention that the Police, particularly its leadership, should enforce the law, not lobby to change it.”

Williams expressed strong disapproval of Coster’s actions, questioning his role: “Who does the Police Commissioner think he is? If he wants to get involved in political campaigning, he should stand down.”

Williams further criticised Coster for seemingly contradicting himself: “It appears Mr. Coster is trying to have it both ways by saying it is not his job to advocate for law changes, yet proceeding to do just that. Leading Morning Report with stories about the Commissioner advocating for minimum pricing of alcohol is a blatant disregard for the conventions Mr. Coster is supposed to uphold.”

Williams called for immediate action from the Police Minister and the Public Service Commission to address the Commissioner’s conduct and ensure adherence to constitutional conventions.

  1. Oh dear. This silly little bloke needs to keep in his lane.I.e catching criminals.

Nobody is interested in his stupid personal opinions.

  2. This globalist govt ;like the last one doesn’t care about constitutional conventions….that’s for democratic govts only………….

  3. Coster isn’t elected by anyone. He’s just a typical dumbass cop with a slight talent for greasy pole climbing.

Bu*ger off Coster, we know your game.

  4. I’ve met a few cops over years, a small minority of them mean well.

However all have one thing in common,. They tend to be slightly thick. Coster is no exception obviously.

    Just saying.

  5. The Taxpayers Union should have gone to bat for tobacco as well decades ago and stopped all the prissy mouthed prohibitioners and their job creating proponents in their tracks.
Alcohol does far more damage than tobacco. I could smoke all day and still safely drive a car. I never ended up in A&E for fighting other smokers. I kept smoking and didn’t grow as fat as a pig like the virtuous abstainers. Because I was happy to hang off the end of a cigarette I never felt the need to try meth or other drugs. Smokers never have to worry about catching Covid, or developing Alzheimers – and NOT because we don’t live long enough as the wowsers would have it. We satisfy all the little nicotine receptors in our bodies and don’t ask why they are there, we think more clearly, we relax more completely and more often and we are much happier than the Karens and the tobacco demonisers think we should be. Our lungs don’t go black and shrivel up – because organ donations from smokers are as acceptable as they are from the ‘never smoked’.
We don’t fill the mental health facilities and jails like the drunkards and drug addicts. Nor did we end up in court with a rap sheet at twelve years of age because the punitive measures to make tobacco inaccessible to poor people make ram raids profitable. (There’s still time for that though.)
There is a wide and nasty streak of authoritarianism in most of our public servants who are where they are because they love power. Ban this and ban that is their cry. Mandatory seatbelts and crash helmets, no smoking, no drinking, no eating meat (coming soon) vaccinations up the wazoo – all to ‘keep us safe’ yet the people are angrier and dying earlier than ever. And still the fools cry out for more. If the government promised them immortality by turning them into mindless robots they would accept it – oh, hang on a minute…

  6. What the f us coster still there go run away like all the other rats – disgusting piece of s*** that you are costar
