Environment Southland has rejected a local group’s request to review the water consent for the $5 billion Datagrid AI data centre at Makarewa.
The consent lets Datagrid draw up to 600,000 litres of groundwater each day. The public never got a chance to object, because the council judged the environmental effects “minor”.
The council said Datagrid’s allowance would be less than 10% of the regional water limit, so the legal threshold for review had not been met.
Southland District Council, which approved the building, has also refused to reopen its consent after the group raised concerns about the noise from the plant’s cooling systems and generators.

Its real purpose, I believe, is primarily to enable data harvesting on a massive scale, ushering in the real surveillance state. Its not feasible using people, as they do in China. It has over 1+ million public servants watching the Chinese populace. So this is a working substitute.

I read recently where Israel and US feed all the gathered data from camera surveillance, satellite, phone, people movement data etc into Ai processed by companies like Palantir and other tech companies to provide target lists for airforce etc in Palestine and Iran with a possible 10% or more wrong target outcome. Maybe that’s why they bombed that school in Iran.
