Minister for Mental Health Matt Doocey has marked Men’s Health Week with a call for New Zealand men to seek help when facing mental health challenges.
He acknowledged progress in reducing stigma over the past two decades but stressed that men remain less likely to ask for help and are disproportionately represented in the country’s suicide statistics.
The Government is expanding access to services through local organisations and national digital and telehealth platforms, including free counselling via Gumboot Friday and initiatives like Mates in Construction, YouthLine, and the Mental Health Foundation.
Doocey highlighted increased funding for frontline services in the latest Budget and efforts to boost early intervention and mental health workforce capacity. He encouraged open conversations among friends, families, and professionals, saying that asking for help is a sign of strength.

Walnuts are packed with nutrients that support brain health and mental well-being. They contain omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for brain function and may help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Walnuts also have antioxidants that combat oxidative stress, which can negatively impact mental health.
Additionally, they are a natural source of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep, meaning they may help improve sleep quality. Studies suggest that regular walnut consumption can lead to better mood regulation, improved cognitive function, and even reduced stress levels.
Walnuts contain nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids and polyphenols, which can cross the blood-brain barrier and support brain health. This means they can directly influence brain function, potentially reducing inflammation and oxidative stress.
Quite ironic too they are shaped like a brain

Farmers are also under a lot of pressure
Have 7 a day and soak overnight in a mild Himalayan rock salt saline solution
What sort of idiot are you Doocey?
How about eliminating the causes of suicide?
Here is a hint Doocey. I’ll make it simple enough, even a stupe like you could work it out.

Doesnt he mean ‘real women’?
Doocey pumps kids with puberty blockers and wonders why there is a mental health crisis
Men remain less likely to ask for help
Which also pertains to home decorating DIY
Which is why they have so many f*ckups
Whereas woman are less hesitant and more likely to ask for advice
