Former prominent news anchor for UK state broadcaster the BBC Huw Edwards has pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.
The 62-year-old was found with 37 photographs on WhatsApp, including seven of the most serious category A type.
Edwards appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, flanked by police, where he confirmed his name and address before admitting to possessing the illegal images. The offences occurred between December 2020 and August 2021, leading to his arrest in November last year and charges being brought in June.
Edwards’ court appearance and the charges were kept confidential until recently.
The former news star, once one of the state media’s highest-paid anchors, left the corporation in April for “medical reasons.”
His suspension began in July 2023 following allegations that he paid a teenager for explicit images. The charges carry a maximum penalty of ten years’ imprisonment.
