Health NZ facing dire financial crisis and staffing shortages, says new Commissioner

Health NZ news

Newly appointed commissioner of Health New Zealand Lester Levy has revealed that the organisation’s financial situation is worse than anticipated, with some monthly deficits exceeding the estimated $130 million.

Tasked with addressing a $1.4 billion overspend and “systemic issues,” Levy told media there was an urgent need for rapid changes to prevent the agency from going broke in the coming months. He stressed that financial stability must be achieved swiftly to address pressing cash-flow problems before Christmas. Levy also said that reducing long waiting times for patients remains a top priority.

In addition to financial woes Health NZ is grappling with severe staff shortages, with overworked clinicians and inadequate coverage in various regions, leading to reliance on telehealth services. Levy has initiated a review to identify the most severe staff shortages and potential safety concerns, with results expected in the next month or two.

    • Yeah what a cluster. Don’t get sick in this country.

Our local nurses can’t even get a full 40 hour eeek. Somethings not adding up.

  1. New Zealand is finished. We are planning to leave. Yet more shockingly bad government, wasting money on rubbish, whilst letting things that matter fall into ruin.

Growing authoritarianism too, at the behest of foreign interests. The forced jab only the latest, lets not forget the so called hate speech laws these arrogant morons want to inflict on New Zealand. And there’s more besides.

I have no idea where this will end but what we have seen recently has led us to the conclusion there is nothing left on offer that justifies our staying. I’m a third generation Kiwi, my child’s a fourth. There wont be a fifth.

    Oh and f*** you National.

    • Well said. Fk labour, Fk National. Both sellouts and liars.

Where are you going? I feel stuck here with my elderly parents. I want out but probably too old to go. In my 50s.

      This country is F’d.

      • Absolutely agree…it appears New Zealand will be the likely pilot for forced vaccination.
“ Section 71A of the Health Act authorising police to use force “to help” an authorised health officer exercise his or her powers, which includes requiring persons to remain in a designated place until they have undergone “preventive treatment”
In view of this I will be out of here and never return..but then again, my elderly parent happens to be one of the vaccine injured, so I am sure she will understand!

        • I am sorry to hear about that. Both my parents have also suffered unusual side effects from the jab. Mum had strange skin lesions and skin cancer, dad bloodied eye, skin cancer and aortic aneurysm.

I will never forget that picture of Luxons bald head looking out over the protesters. Never forget these politicians know what’s going on and they have accepted large amounts of money tk SELL OUT THEIR FELLOW HUMAN. They have sold their souls to the devil.

I guess we better start sharpening or fashioning our pitchforks then lol.

      • We are thinking of either Malaysia or Vietnam. I had considered Australia but its going int the same direction, as New Zealand. That said, as of right now, cancer is five times more survivable under the Australian medical system than it is, here in New Zealand.

And we wont be leaving right away, so expect some more acerbic comments on this site for a while yet.

        • Well good luck my friend. I don’t know where is safe. One of my husbands work colleagues went to Bangladesh for a holiday to see her parents and is now stuck there with her hubby back here.he couldn’t get hold of her for days and was and still is extremely worried.

  2. Thanks to all of you who voted National, ACt or NZ First instead of NZ loyal. You got what you voted for – the pink flip side of a red coin.
You had the chance in the last election to stick it right up Liebour, National, NZ thrusdt and Act’s backside but you chose, like beaten dogs, to crawel back to the masters who beat you with mandates, corrupt fiscal policy and extended borrowings from Black rock, the same people paying Jabcionda now. Once again, well done!

    • Very good comment dave, I also shake my head at the ignorance of the ave kiwi. Apart from a punch in the face ,what does it take to get these people to open their eyes to what’s happening around the globe. These people are making life unsafe for all of us, Lets see how many fall for the bird flu. Ha Ha Ha well….. at least the safe effective jabs will clean the gene pool up

    • 💯 Anonymous. What will it take to actually cause mass protest leading to meaningful change? Sadness, in the case of NZ I’m not optimistic. Division at all levels has been masterfully executed – left, right, race, age, income, vax status, climate freaks – such that team mobilization is nearly impossible. The MSM are paid whores, simple. Most political grubs are narcissistic activist freaks, simple. NZers are in general detested by said players as compliant puffins. One look at NZ Herald is enough to make you realize that genuinely important issues around civil liberties, apartheid, corruption, are to be ignored. A bloated beaurecracy is purely dystopian chess with each slug hoping to devour as much carcus as possible, whatever the cost. The average citizen is now too self absorbed or mentally or physically disabled to care.

  3. No use running away from this shit ,the people have the power in numbers stand and fight these SCUM it’s happening all around the world o matter where you go evil in power most contries,we are millions they are thousands who’s going to win we are.

    • Yeah I am staying and will fight and resist to my last breath, if that’s what it takes, covid hardened my resolve.

We may not have guns but that won’t stop us.

  4. This is what you get when after years of supercharging the population growth by 66% all the while cutting the health budgets and closing down smaller community hospitals. Winston Peters tried to warn the country and was met with ridicule by the MSM and politicians and labelled Xenophobic and racist. I blame all political parties for the ruination of a once superb health system.

  5. We hear daily about the ‘Health Crisis’ in New Zealand….the word ‘crisis’ came about during the Covid pandemic. We hear about burnt out staff, underfunding and over capacity in certain Hospitals.
What we don’t hear is WHY is there such demand on our hospitals? What are the illnesses now tracking as high need and/or chronic and what is the actual demand? What are the real wait times for surgeries? How proactive is our diagnostic testing or have limitations been put on this driving up ED visits? Why are our GP clinics under so much pressure when back in the day 15-20 minutes was a standard appointment now reduced to 10 mins or a 5 -10 minute Telehealth consult?
I presume the multiple mass vaccination of the population has somewhat added to the crisis?
Maybe a bit of transparency in our Health Authorities revealing the true extent of the issues would create a better level of understanding for those down at the bottom level of the Health system bureaucracy chain…the patients…
