Govt.nz app expands into identity and messaging

New Zealanders will soon be able to store digital identity credentials and receive direct government communications through an expanded Govt.nz app, as the Government pushes further into ‘integrated digital services’.

Digitising Government and Public Service Minister Judith Collins announced a suite of new features set to roll out in the coming months, positioning the app as a central access point for interacting with government systems.

By the end of March users will gain access to a built-in digital wallet capable of storing accredited credentials issued by both government agencies and ‘approved private-sector organisations’. The rollout coincides with the launch of a new Government Credential Issuance Platform, designed to allow agencies to issue digital credentials directly into users’ wallets through a single, standardised system.

The first use case is already in development, with Hospitality New Zealand working alongside the Department of Internal Affairs to introduce a digital version of the Kiwi Access Card. Subject to legislative changes, the credential would allow individuals to verify their age at bars and events using their smartphone, removing the need for physical identification.

Further expansion is planned by mid-2026, when secure in-app messaging will enable government agencies to send notifications directly to users. These could include reminders for vehicle registrations, official updates, or travel advisories, consolidating communication channels into a single digital platform.

Collins said the upgrades are intended to provide New Zealanders with ‘more convenient and secure ways to access public services’, while reducing duplication across government systems and improving efficiency.

The State maintains that its use will remain optional, with traditional service channels continuing to operate alongside the digital platform.

  1. Optional until its not…..They will wait until they have enough uptake from the lazy New Zealand dimwits and then say, “oh well, its used by so many people, everyone can use it!”

  2. Clownface Judith says it’s voluntary but mark my words within 5 years there will be a 100,000 dollar fine and up to 6 months imprisonment for any kiwi refusing to imstall this government spyware in their phone.

    • Simple- just get a burner phone for the app and NEVER use it for day-to-day comms.
Use a primary phone that is encrypted without the app.
Upload the ‘Digital App’ on the burner, and place the same in the toilet so that the government can eavesdrop in on bubbly farts, diarrheoa explosions, and the occasional slpash of the great borwn loaf…
Maybe they’ll get some other great legislative ideas just from the sounds emanating from the great white bowl…

  3. Ridiculous. When we all gather into a bleating flock(again) to bend over and get our compulsary/mandated digital chips inserted permanently up into our anuses around june/july this year, then we’re not gonna need phones anymore…. baaaahh…. baaaaahhhh….

  4. In other words an interoperable technocratic digital prison, all ‘for your convenience’ of course .

Oddly there’s no big announcement in Judith’s Twitter/X page this time. I guess the evil old bag doesn’t want be pilloried again.

  5. Much as I’d love to be involved in this hellish dystopian nightmare, unfortunately my old Nokia phone doesn’t do ‘apps’.

    Oh dear…

  6. Like most people I’ve got a passport and driving licence, so don’t need an app to ‘prove my identity’ when buying a beer.

    Hidden agenda much?

  7. “Approved private-sector organisations”, by this they mean banks obviously.

“And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

    Revelation 13:17.

Thanks a bunch Judith Collins. Great job as usual!

  8. Anyway no thanks
Husbands phone crashed yesterday the screen was toast, what happens when that happens? Locked out from society? Are the govt going to buy everyone new phones?

  9. Apps are so 2025, I’m looking forward to the ‘for-your-safety/security/convenience’ microchipping announcement.

Then we can all become “not-compulsory” government pets.

The good news is we get half a tin of dog food every day, and a double ration at Christmas, but only if we behave.

  10. The framework and path towards government tracking of all things a person does has been developed. It will lead to absolute control and obedience to government regulations.

Voluntary at first. When the system is in place, paper transactions will fade into history.

    All things purchased accounted.
    All places visited.
All text and phone calles received and made.
    All medical records.
    All door locks opened.
All cameras and microphones turned on 24/7. Siri does that now.
    All untraceable cash transactions gone.
    All travel and speed recorded.

You will not be able to travel on a plane or public transport without a device.

The last step is a microchip embedded under your skin. Tested for years with cats and dogs.

Ankle tags are for criminals on parole. Not for the public!

    Information leeks.

    Information sold to businesses.

    A way to limit resources.

    • The NON-ELECTED NGO’s are the problem…
The NZ Loyal Party and perhaps the NZ Outdoors & Freedom Party will make it illegal for the government to glean information from the NON-ELECTED NGO’s that appear at this present time to have no accountability when used to target a citizen, business or groups.
Selling one’s data to a government using a Zionist-based & owned UN-ELECTED NGO should in the future incur heavy penalties, with reparations and compensation paid to the victims of the on-going conspiracy that skirts the law!
