Transgender players have been banned from women’s darts tournaments under new rules from the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA), which state that only biological females can compete in women’s events.
The decision follows a scientific review that found darts to be a “gender-affected sport” with cumulative physical differences favouring male players.
The DRA said it still aims to be inclusive, allowing all players to compete in open tournaments regardless of gender identity.
The move comes shortly after the International Olympic Committee announced similar eligibility rules for female categories. Dutch player Noa-Lynn van Leuven said the decision effectively ends her career, describing it as another setback for the transgender community.
