Hollywood actors, senior doctors, scientists and former Wimbledon champions have joined calls for an independent investigation into potential harms associated with Covid ‘vaccines’, arguing that unresolved safety concerns deserve closer scrutiny.
Actor Woody Harrelson is among the high-profile names supporting an open letter to the Prime Minister, alongside former Wimbledon champions Pat Cash and Peter Fleming and more than 20 doctors, academics, medical organisations and other public figures.
The initiative was organised by British consultant cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra, a prominent critic of ‘Covid vaccination’ policy who has previously raised concerns about vaccine safety, pharmaceutical industry influence and the independence of medical regulation.
Malhotra and co-signatory Professor Angus Dalgleish, emeritus professor of oncology at St George’s, University of London, have also presented their concerns at a US Senate hearing examining Covid vaccine safety and disputes surrounding medical research.
The campaigners stress that they are not demanding that the Government accept their interpretation of the available evidence. Instead, they argue that disputed questions should be subjected to a genuinely independent examination.
“We are not asking you to accept the conclusions. We are asking you to ensure that the evidence is examined. That distinction matters,” the letter states.
The signatories are seeking a broad review of Covid vaccine safety, including possible cardiovascular effects, and want individual cases involving people who believe they suffered serious vaccine injuries or lost relatives following vaccination to receive appropriate investigation.
Certain rare serious adverse reactions to Covid vaccines are already recognised by health authorities. These include myocarditis and pericarditis following some mRNA vaccines and the rare clotting disorder associated with the AstraZeneca vaccine. The UK also operates a Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme covering severe disability caused by eligible vaccinations, including Covid vaccines.
However, the letter’s authors argue that questions remain about the possible extent and nature of adverse effects. They also want vaccination considered alongside other potential explanations when researchers investigate excess mortality and increased long-term sickness following the pandemic.
The campaigners acknowledge that numerous factors could potentially contribute to those trends, including Covid infection itself, delayed NHS treatment, lockdown-related effects and broader pressure on the healthcare system. Their contention is that the so-called ‘vaccination’ should be examined as one potential factor rather than excluded from consideration.
The letter also criticises the UK Covid-19 Inquiry’s handling of vaccine-safety concerns. Four of its lead authors were invited to provide evidence relating to vaccines and treatments but claim the issues they raised were not adequately addressed.
“Inviting doctors and scientists to provide testimony and then failing adequately to engage with contested evidence does little to restore confidence among those who already believe their concerns are being ignored,” the letter says.
Other signatories include medical microbiologist Professor David Livermore, Professor David Paton, actor and comedian Rob Schneider, former England cricketer Dimitri Mascarenhas and filmmaker Gurinder Chadha. Organisations represented include the Children’s Covid Vaccines Advisory Council, Health Advisory and Recovery Team, UK Medical Freedom Alliance, Doctors for Patients UK, the Perseus Group and Thinking Coalition.
The campaigners argue that an independent inquiry should be capable of resolving the dispute regardless of what the evidence ultimately demonstrates.
“If the concerns we and others have raised prove unfounded, a rigorous investigation should establish that. If they are justified, the public deserves to know,” the letter states.
UK regulators maintain that Covid vaccines underwent rigorous assessment for safety, quality and effectiveness. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has continued to state that the benefits of authorised Covid vaccines outweigh their known risks for the populations for whom they are recommended.
