Drever is three months into a two year prison sentence for fraud.
Drever was hospitalised after a serious assault by another inmate in the Ngawha Prison kitchen on 16 November. Sources told legacy media that Drever was slashed across the face with a grate hook, causing a deep gash and exposing his nasal cavity. It’s the second time Drever has been assaulted in prison, after he was attacked at Mt. Eden after his sentencing earlier this year. Responding to questions over whether Corrections was doing enough to protect Drever, prison director David Pattinson said violence between prisoners could not be prevented 100%.
