Police and emergency services are continuing search efforts after a man was reported missing when his vehicle was swept away at a river crossing near Warkworth this morning.

Police were alerted at 7.41am after receiving information that a man had been washed away at a crossing on Falls Road, near the intersection with Woodcocks Road.

Officers attending the scene established that a passenger had managed to exit the vehicle and raise the alarm. Police Search and Rescue teams were deployed, working alongside Fire and Emergency crews, with search efforts focused around the Mahurangi River.

Despite the ongoing operation, the man remains unaccounted for. Falls Road has been closed, and police are urging the public to avoid the area, closely follow weather warnings, and take extra care around waterways as wet conditions continue.
