Ministry launches prototype Government app – Collins hails “convenience”

Government app news

Digitising Government Minister Judith Collins this week revealed the first prototypes of a new Government App, which she says will provide a secure and convenient way for New Zealanders to access key services such as education enrolment, birth registration, and tax information.

The app will also hold digital credentials, including a planned mobile driver licence, and is being modelled on “international examples” but developed with a “distinctly New Zealand feel.”

Collins stressed that traditional service options will remain available for those who prefer not to use the app.

The announcement, however, sparked immediate criticism across social media.

Many commenters accused the government of laying the groundwork for mass surveillance, comparing the project to China’s infamous social credit system and warning it could become a tool for tracking citizens.

“Say No to Digital ID,” wrote one critic, while another added: “No one asked for this. No one wants this.”

Others cited past broken promises around driver licence photos and COVID “vaccine passports” and warned against trusting government assurances. Some dismissed the app as “completely untrustworthy and very dangerous,” arguing no government software should run on personal devices.

  1. I would trust Judith Collins as far as I could kick a hot steaming turd in a corner kike church confession booth on Saturday
This is just a leg in the door
Or a foot into bed with a strange bed partner
    Disgusting creature

  2. The trouble with government assurances is government policy changes when whomever gets in power.

My policy however, will not change.

The government seeks full control over everybody in the world. The government seeks control, freedom restrictions on travel, purchases in terms of what, who from and how much. The government seeks all social media posts, blogs, emails, sites visited, tax, banking, health to be recorded and reviewed.

Privacy is at an end. Full control over you will be imposed.

Just look at the protesters in the UK and Europe. French government has crashed. The people are burning buildings.

Give us democracy in these constitutional matters or be prepared to be replaced.

    • Both parties? All the ones that are in the wasp nest will go extinct.
ALL have lost credibility, respect and mana.
To be frank: I thought we see some more of them trying to jump ship.

  3. That’s a hard NO from me, Judith. You and the rest of the swamp dwellers can take your ‘secure & convenient’, along with your ‘safe & effective’ and f*ck right off!

  4. So out of touch, they actually think anyone truly trusts them, at this point. They all showed their hand during COVID, Labour and National, in particular, cheering it on. They think too, it’s going to be a cake walk into a police state. Well just look at the UK , on the cusp of a revolution, plus the mounting protests in Australia, including the huge turn out against mass immigration, what, a couple of weeks back? Truly reckless and frankly, none too clever. I guess a bit of paper on a wall, will only take you so far.

  5. Convenience and security,
    Health and Safety,
two sides of the same 1984 coin.
The next thing will be some ‘reason’ to introduce digital ID and digital ‘money’.
Somebody wrote “not reading the room”. These individuals are so far removed from reality and from what normal Kiwis are worried about that they seem brain-dead. They are not but they are void of humanism.

  6. Before covid this would have been rolled out without much fanfare or difficulty. Post-covid no one trusts the government anymore. It’s a No from me!

  7. I do not consent to any government run app on any personal device. I have no faith in the decisions made by the Government or any MP. Experience says all those whom think they have authority over me are sucking the goodness out of me. To Judith and her handlers this is a definite no from me for this government app to be on my phone

  8. Judas, freshly back from promoting WW3 in Ukraine, can now focus on destroying our food safety with her GMO Bill, and introducing a social credit score Trojan Horse, for our ‘safety & convenience’..
Who do you work for Judas, because it’s clearly not us New Zealanders..?

  9. Not remotely interested Judith.
I don’t believe a word you say, and you certainly don’t work for us.
Everything you come up with is designed to control and manipulate people, strip them of their rights and impoverish them on every level possible.

  10. she wasted billions of dollars on helicopters which wont protect New Zealand in a conflict situation. A ten thousand dollar missile will down the US made flying toy.

  11. A mad granny is trying to sell me a dystopian digital ID “for my convenience”.

No thanks Judith, you corrupt senile silly old fart.

  12. Judith doesnt need any form of ID (because of her size too). Most common public are nothing to the Empire of Lies. So they dont need it for their welfare. Digital IDs benefits the ruling cabol to spy and enslave the peasents like us.
