NZ First introduces Bill to protect against ‘Digital ID’ overreach

New Zealand First has today introduced a Member’s Bill that would ensure physical identification remains a valid and equal alternative to fully digital identification.

The Identification (Protection of Physical Identification Methods) Bill mandates that organisations accept passports, driver licences, 18+ cards, school IDs, and other prescribed physical documents whenever proof of age or identity is required.

“This is not about rejecting technology or digital progress. It’s about ensuring Kiwis retain the freedom to verify their identity without sacrificing their privacy,” says New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters.

“We’ve heard growing unease that digital-only systems could become coercive or insecure.”

Under the Bill, small organisations face fines up to $10,000 and larger ones up to $50,000 for refusing a valid physical ID without reasonable excuse. A clear complaint register, and annual reporting will ensure accountability.

“Our laws should protect personal choice and privacy, not erode them in the name of digital convenience.”

“This isn’t anti-digital. It’s about putting people in control of their personal information. We’re offering common-sense guardrails against digital overreach. This Bill stands up for every Kiwi who values their privacy” says Mr Peters.

“This Bill is a win for individual freedoms.”

  1. “This Bill is a win for individual freedoms.” Is it? What I don’t see here is ensuring we don’t have to present any form of ID to do things we can now do without one. For example, using the internet, paying to get on a train (you need a personal ID in Germany that’s linked to Google to do that in most places), shopping for groceries, using public facilities like pools and going for a walk in a park (in China many public parks now require a National ID), travelling within your own country by any means (again in China this can entail a National ID as your anticipated place of residence is linked to your place of birth). Not having to prove you have taken the jab or any vaccine for that matter(Portugal is one nation testing vaccine passports).

Lipstick on an Orwellian pig, in the lead up to elections, next year.

    • Yep. Should not have to produce ID for everyday things.

If that remains the case, good. But if more and more things require ID, doesn’t matter if its digital or not. Still loss of freedom and will drive more people to digital ID for convenience

  2. Digital ID is techno-fascism!
    BAN IT IN ALL FORMS!!!
Vote for the New Zealand Loyal Party to put a stop to this totalitarian Talmudic enslavement!
Look at the damage that Judith is doing to the country with the failed Air NZ CEO and his ‘Cabinet’ being smug about the forced WEF / JWO policies that they are trying to ram down our throats!

  3. Key words to note ‘other prescribed physical documents’. Interesting to think on with mandates still in legislation . Anyone for a new ‘prescription’?

  4. Scenario-
Whilst at a public space which has public toilets, me goes off to use the same.
Upon reaching the said toilet, it requires a Digital ID to enter the stall.
Since me has Low Social Credit, or no Judith Collins-based Digital ID at all, I can’t relieve meself…
    Sooooo….
A brown steaming coil is left outside the door of the stall…garnished by emergency toilet paper which me carry in me backpack!

  5. There is no requirement for any free Man (look it up – it means woman too) to carry identity of who we are in Any form. What for? I know who I am. This is a soft way for the govt. to appease the pressures of the wef to enforce what they want on human beings. It is quite simple – all we need to say is NO. Just say no.
