A significant privacy breach at the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) exposed the names and addresses of 951 individuals through its Motochek system over a 12-month period, with at least 13 of the affected vehicles believed to have been targeted for theft.
The breach stemmed from the unauthorised use of a Motochek account belonging to a former employee of Auckland Auto Collections Ltd.
NZTA became aware of the issue in May 2025 following a customer complaint and a police investigation.
The agency has apologised, notified the Privacy Commissioner, and is contacting affected individuals while working with police and undertaking system improvements to prevent future breaches.

I complained to NZTA about exactly this problem in the middle of last year. Their response was that my situation was an isolated case. Zero care about the underlying point of my query. And here we are. No surprises from me.
Same thing with happen with the firearm registration
Thats what you get when you diversity hire gang associates.
And now also, thanks to the Firearms Registry, once that gets hacked, thieves will be stealing guns from decent people and giving them to criminals.
Don’t worry, your personal information is safe with us….🤡🤡🤡
I would think 951 is just the tip of the iceberg.
