Former U.S. President Barack Obama has called on Israelis and Palestinians to seize what he described as a “moment of hope” as the Gaza conflict appears close to ending, saying the world should be “encouraged and relieved.”
In a message posted on X, Obama said the apparent progress toward peace offered long-awaited relief after two years of “unimaginable loss and suffering” for both sides. He expressed hope that remaining hostages would soon be reunited with their families and that humanitarian aid would finally reach civilians in Gaza whose lives have been devastated by the war.
“After two years of unimaginable loss and suffering for Israeli families and the people of Gaza, we should all be encouraged and relieved that an end to the conflict is within sight,” Obama wrote.
The former president added that it was now up to both Israelis and Palestinians, with support from the international community, to commit to rebuilding Gaza and forging a sustainable peace. “By recognizing the common humanity and basic rights of both peoples,” Obama said, “we can achieve a lasting peace.”
