Parents blame agencies for teen’s death after anorexia battle overlooked in trans-focused care

The parents of a South Island teenager who died of anorexia in emergency accommodation say their child was failed by health, education, and welfare agencies more concerned with affirming a transgender identity than treating a life-threatening eating disorder.

The 17-year-old, reported as “Vanessa” in the legacy mainstream media had a long history of anorexia, autism, and trauma, and was placed under a Compulsory Treatment Order before being discharged despite signs of deterioration.

Vanessa, who at times identified as male, cut off contact with her parents after they questioned the gender identity shift.

The parents say multiple “professionals” failed to act as her condition worsened.

Weighing only 30kg, Vanessa was found dead in a motel room in January 2023. Her parents believe her death was preventable and are awaiting a coroner’s inquiry.

The agencies involved in the care of the teenager were Health New Zealand (mental health services), Oranga Tamariki (child welfare), the Ministry of Social Development (benefits and youth support), the Ministry of Education (schooling and correspondence education), Presbyterian Support (through Youth Payment coaching), and The Salvation Army (emergency housing support). All acknowledged the loss but declined further comment due to the ongoing coroner’s inquiry.

  1. Iv’e lost all faith and trust in so called government and its mechanisms, a long time ago. It wont be coming back.

    Sad story. RIP.

  2. Scariest words in the English language according to Ronald Reagan: “I am from the government and I’m here to help”.

  3. Mental health services – always prepared to listen to the abuser, who claims to be a partner or even the next of kin, when in fact they (the abuser) began the whole process of unravelling an awesome person’s identity.

  4. How the hell does a Compulsory Treatment Order conform to the basic rights of all New Zealanders to refuse medical treatment and not be subjected to medical experimentation as laid out in the NZ Bill of Rights Act?

  5. We taxpayers should stop wasting our hard-earned money on the health system which was clearly designed to keep the patient sick. This tragic case points to an obvious conclusion without any coronial investigation.

All of the taxpayer funds provided for this person via the Health New Zealand (mental health services), Oranga Tamariki (child welfare), the Ministry of Social Development (benefits and youth support), the Ministry of Education (schooling and correspondence education), Presbyterian Support (through Youth Payment coaching), and The Salvation Army (emergency housing support), and also the NZ Police….. failed to keep this person alive.

The obvious conclusion – throwing more precious taxpayer funds at the problem does not solve the problem, it just wastes the money and entrenches the tragedy.

  6. The woke agenda is real. They jump at anything that moves to try and transition them. Watch out parents!! Ensure your schools are woke bastards.

  7. “The agencies involved in the care of the teenager…..”
    ….should have never been involved.
In fact, these agencies should have never been incorporated in the first place.
Imbecile sheeple being fed by imbecile cross-dressing wolfs.
    So sad.
