Police updates on crimes and investigations for 6 January 2023.
Update – Incident on Batty Road, Karaka
One person has been charged, following an incident on Batty Road, Karaka on 5 January, 2023 where an injured person was found in a critical condition.
A 43-year-old man is appearing in the Manukau District Court today charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The investigation continues to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
As the matter is now before the Court, Police are unable to make any further comment.
Name release – fatal crash, Evans Street, Timaru
Police are now in a position to confirm the names of the people that died in a crash on Evans Street, Timaru on 29 December.
They were Tatana Kerei Pehi, 21, of Timaru and Jay Hamuera DJ Ross, 21, of Timaru.
Name release – Back Ormond Road, Gisborne
Police can now release the names of the two men who died following a crash on Back Ormond Road, Gisborne, on 31 December.
They were Waylon Uatuku, 18, and Jardon Thomas Te Hau, 31, both of Gisborne.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
