Premier House report shows need for extensive refurbishment

Premier House report news

A report on the condition of Premier House has highlighted several major issues with building.

Included in the report were concerns such as draughtiness, outdated and uninsulated conditions, and poor layout. The furnishings and fittings are over 30 years old, in poor to average condition, and prone to breaking. The building’s lack of insulation, single-glazed windows, and inefficient heating system further contribute to its inadequacy by current standards.

The Premier House Board has recommended $30 million work programme, according to a report in legacy media outlet NZ Herald.

The report, initially commissioned by former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was passed to Luxon. It suggested the residence’s shortcomings could deter future Prime Ministers from living there, incurring additional costs from having to find alternative accommodation and security.

The report also addresses the ‘politicisation’ of Premier House’s maintenance and refurbishment, suggesting that this has contributed to its current state. Luxon has yet to make decisions regarding the residence’s future, noting the public’s likely preference against selling it but acknowledging the challenge of approving maintenance in the current economic climate.

  1. What’s the problem?
We spent 64+ billion on a virus that doesn’t exist
    Not to mention CHCH
    At least with refurbishments
We would have something to show for our money

    • Eh, knowing those wacky loveable rapscallions in Wellington, this is probably just BS-excuse-seeding for another toll road or a new tax etc.

“Just until the house is fully updated and modernised, guys. We promise 😉”

  2. So like every state house in New Zealand. Sick and tired of listening to the parasites whinge while they bleed ordinary decent hard working people dry. Another loathsome bunch of globalists.

  3. Tough.
    Its free.
Be greatful or rent an apartment.
Those on the street have substandard insulation too.
    Suck it up.
Your performance deserves way less than this mansion. A run down council flat in a bad area is more aligned.
Or mt eden heritage high security apartments… This is really where nzgovtcorp deserves.

  4. Luxon could have continued to take the allowance, provided that the allowance was re-invested back into renovations at the Official PM Residence.
Maybe the allowance will be re-directed by the Ombudsman for that particular purpose.
    BUT-
I think that the MP’s & PM should ALL live in a ‘tiny home’ and be evicted once a week from whatever location where they park the abode.
THAT will give them the feeling of what those who are minimally-housed or not housed at all are dealing with.
Throw-in some highly vaccinated demonically-possessed screaming sprogs, and Pit Bulls / Staffordshire Terriers that bite into the mix, and then let’s see how THEY make out…!
