The Cancer Control Agency (CCA) has released ‘The State of Cancer in New Zealand 2025’, providing the most up-to-date overview of how the country is tracking across prevention, detection and treatment.
The report, published on Thursday, shows New Zealand has made “encouraging progress” over the past five years, with rising survival rates, declining smoking across all ethnicities, and more effective national screening programmes.
Chief executive Rami Rahal said the findings reflect important gains but warned the system faces mounting pressure. The number of people diagnosed with cancer each year is expected to climb from over 30,000 in 2025 to more than 45,000 by 2044.
“We cannot respond to this big increase in demand by doing more of the same. We need new and innovative ways of delivering care and preventing cancers,” he said.
The report notes that up to half of all cancers could be prevented through eliminating tobacco use, reducing alcohol consumption, improving nutrition and physical activity, and strengthening sun-protection and infection-prevention measures.
Increasing screening participation remains one of the most effective ways to improve outcomes, with early detection strongly linked to higher survival rates. CCA is now working with the sector to refresh the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan for 2019–2029, with an updated version expected in February.
‘Increasing participation in screening is a proven way to not only finding cancers early, but in some cases, preventing cancer from starting. The earlier a person’s cancer is detected and treated, the better the outcomes for them,’ said Rahal.
‘To support continued progress, we are working with the sector to refresh the actions in the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019–2029, ensuring it reflects the latest evidence and prepares the system to manage the rising number of cancer cases while maintaining the highest quality of care.’

Was at a swimming spot at the river last weekend. It was an eyeopener.
The only physical activity were a few kids jumping off a bridge. The rest of the whanau were slugging down fizzy drinks and chips. The were fat like walrusses, hardly able to get up off the ground.
Funny enough I ran into them later in the supermarket. Two trolleys full of junk food.
I sometimes wonder how people survive.

Since the introduction of covid vaccines. Compared to pre pandemic. There is to this day, a sustained 15% increase in all cause death rates in Aotearoa.
Spike in death rates occured in 2022 with covid in community. Though with all those elderly having died, who can’t die twice. The death rates have remained elevated.

On Newsmax tv, mainstream news in the US, my sister rang and told me that doctors there are saying you have a 40% increase in chance of cancer developing if you had either the Pfizer or the Moderna vaccines… and yet here in NZ nothing, nadda out of our government, not a damn single warning,,,, they are still pushing the flu and the covid jabs together…at our rural 4 Square in their parking lot about a month ago, there were 2 flags flying, one said FLU Jab and the other said Covid Jabs… still trying to kill us off one way or the other eh….
Well when you put untried, untested, safe and effective “Medicine” in your body what do you expect.
