The Law Commission’s latest report, Ia Tangata, has drawn strong criticism from advocacy group Resist Gender Education (RGE), which says the recommendations threaten the rights and safety of girls and women in New Zealand.
The Commission has proposed changes to the Human Rights Act that would make it unlawful for single-sex schools, public facilities, and many sports to exclude individuals based on their biological sex if they identify differently. While the change would apply to both boys’ and girls’ institutions, RGE argues the impact will fall disproportionately on girls.
“The very reason that separate facilities, sports, and schools were set up for girls and women was to provide them with opportunities that had previously been denied,” said RGE spokesperson Fern Hickson. “Giving males with a ‘gender identity’ legal access to female spaces negates their purpose and deprives the next generation of girls of the freedom to safely use public facilities that their mothers and grandmothers were able to enjoy.”
Under the proposals, single-sex schools—including private and religious institutions—would be compelled to accept students of the opposite sex in line with their professed gender identity. Hickson described this as “absurd,” arguing that schools could lawfully refuse entry to students of different religious beliefs but not on the basis of sex.
The Commission, however, downplayed the likely impact, stating it was “not convinced that admitting what is likely to be, at most, a handful of transgender students to a single-sex school would interfere with its general character.”
RGE maintains that the recommendations ignore safeguarding concerns, such as the need for teachers to know students’ biological sex for medical emergencies, residential camps, and sex-specific guidance. In its submission, the group argued that for many families, single-sex education is chosen for reasons including trauma, anxiety, or safety, and that these needs are being disregarded.
The Law Commission framed its report in terms of “human rights”, but opponents say it instead creates “a new class of student” with more rights than others. Hickson accused the Commission of using ideological language and failing to address the negative impacts on women and girls.
“There is nothing progressive about this report,” RGE concluded.

New Zealand urgently needs to adopt the UK Supreme Court ruling made in April this year that defines men and women by their biological sex . They want to make it OK for blokes to use women’s’ toilets and changing facilities. They reckon ‘men’ can become pregnant. Just had a glance at the report on the Law Commission website. 457 pages! Are schoolboys who believe they are girls so soft in the head that they would willingly wear a skirt to attend an all girls school. I would have thought such behaviour would lead to a fair amount of harassment, bullying and ultimately a thorough bashing.
In the U.S., there was a time of self-identification problems….students identifying as animals.
It become so woke, deranged and disgusting that teachers had to supply litter boxes for kids who identified as cats, and dog kennels were placed in classrooms for those identifying as dog!! They had lunch served in dog & cat bowls!!

My child attended a co-ed ‘Christian’ primary school.
I pulled her OUT of that mess after the ‘little boys’ were mooning the girls and flashing their penis and testicles, demanding that the girls suck the same! These were 8 year olds! Makes one wonder what goes on in their homes…
The principle denied any knowledge of the on-going events, in addition to the bullying and assaults by other students (mostly boys) , the staff (Darwin sipporters…) and other parents who prided themselves on the aggressiveness of their ‘boys’. Imports from South Africa were the worse!
Single sex schools make sense to a point, but then we have the Queen Bees bullying the girls from lower income families, putting up with ‘The Bitch Network’ in later years, and exploitation as a means of advancing up the social hierarchy.
The boys ion a single sex school on the other hand are programmed to be exploitive to the girls, and have no interaction on a daily basis.
Soplution; HOME-SCHOOL AND ENGAGE IN ADULT SUPERVISED EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES.
