Six more MPs under scrutiny for undeclared properties

MP property news

An investigation by legacy media outlet NZ Herald has revealed that six MPs failed to declare property holdings under Parliament’s rules, following revelations that MP Carl Bates had not disclosed 25 properties.

Of the six, three have pledged to update their declarations, two have sought advice, and one was unavailable for comment, says the NZ Herald (paywalled).

Notable cases include Speaker Gerry Brownlee, who omitted a dual-title property and another in Christchurch; NZ First Minister Mark Patterson, who did not declare 292 hectares of Otago farmland; Labour MPs Jo Luxton and Damien O’Connor, who both acknowledged “oversights” tied to inheritance and company-owned farmland; and Labour’s Ayesha Verrall, who declared her company’s interest in property but not the property itself.

While most MPs insist the omissions were “inadvertent”, the findings have raised fresh concerns about parliamentary transparency and compliance with Standing Orders requiring full disclosure of MPs’ real property interests.

  1. The floodgates have been opened
    And the dam breached
What other sinister nasties are lurking below the surface?
    Scurrilous pack of no hopers

  2. Once the Kunekune Pig leaves Parliament, he’ll probably be quietly involved in ‘remediating’ the EQ-condemned ‘Green Zone’ in Christchurch for property development which will then erect more 1 bedroom human dog kennels, and you can bet they’ll be packing those with ‘Smart City’ features!
The behaviours on display during the Christchurch Quakes speaks volumes on what these people are all about.
(Hint- insurance company ‘Old Boy’ shareholders who didn’t want to take the hit, so the EQC was formed so that the ratepayers would.)
Christchurch still has quake-displace people living in garden sheds or deplorable caravans…!

When NZ citizens do not disclose, its a criminal act requiring years of litigation, legal fees, penalties, hardship, loss of income, the family home and reputation.
