A veteran social worker in her 40s has been struck off and ordered to pay more than $10,000 in costs after trading sexually explicit messages and intimate photos with a 16-year-old student at the school where she worked part-time in 2023.

The online flirtation began with a Facebook friend request and quickly escalated into graphic sexual fantasies despite her initial attempts to shut it down.

Though she blocked him several times, she kept resuming contact, including sharing intimate photos on Snapchat.

The school discovered the three-week exchange after the boy’s friends alerted the principal.

The tribunal condemned the clear power imbalance and breach of trust, while noting her personal vulnerability and remorse. Her registration was cancelled for serious professional misconduct. Names of the school and parties remain suppressed.
