A tornado has caused extensive damage in Auckland’s East Tamaki area this evening.
Reports say roofs were lifted and trees toppled over.
At 9.49pm Auckland Emergency Management tweeted there had been damage to ‘many homes.’ The Civil Defence Centre at the Howick Leisure Centre at 563 Pakuranga Road will remain open through the night.
The tornado has also caused damage in nearby Botany.

The Civil Defence Centre at Howick Leisure Centre will remain open throughout the night for anyone affected by the tornado who needs somewhere to shelter or a hot cuppa.
