UK to introduce mandatory Digital ID to “curb illegal immigration”

UK Digital ID news

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that Britain will introduce a mandatory digital ID scheme for citizens and residents starting new jobs, aimed at “deterring illegal immigration and strengthening border security”.

The digital ID, held on mobile phones, will initially be used in employment checks and later expanded to services such as childcare, welfare, and tax access.

Reactions to the announcement were swift and critical from across the political spectrum.

Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn condemned the plan on Instagram as “an affront to our civil liberties, and will make the lives of minorities even more difficult and dangerous. It is excessive state interference — and must be resisted.” vowing to “firmly oppose” and vote against it.

From the right, former Reform UK MP, now independent and leader of the Restore Britain movement Rupert Lowe also launched a stinging attack, saying all MPs had been invited to sign a joint letter to Starmer outlining “profound opposition” to Digital ID. He pledged to build “cross-party resistance,” warning that “Digital ID will not be introduced without an almighty fight in Parliament.” Lowe also demanded Parliament be recalled from recess, blasting the government for introducing such a “vile change with no parliamentary oversight.”

The move comes amid mounting public concern over immigration, but critics argue it will not stop illegal crossings and risks infringing on civil liberties.

Britain has not had national identity cards since World War II, and a similar Labour plan in the 2000s under globalist Tony Blair was scrapped due to widespread opposition.
