In an urgent call out for support, Voices For Freedom call on Aucklanders to attend this morning’s Council meeting as a show of opposition to proposed plans to sell the Down car park building.
VFF have asked supporters to attend the Council meeting this morning at 10am, on the second floor of the Town Hall Building in central Auckland.
Council has arranged an urgent meeting to push through the sale of the Downtown car park to Precinct Properties. This is despite public outcry and opposition to the sale from CBD retailers and residents, VFF tweeted.
‘We invite everyone who can to turn up to Town Hall to respectfully show your opposition the planned sale.
‘There is no need to rush a decision on the carpark sale. There has been an offer put on the table just this week by a third party to purchase the car park for $180M (which includes the provision of 1200 carparks).
‘@RCR_NZ’s Paul Brennan spoke yesterday with one property developer who explained the problems with the planned sale. You can listen to the interview here.
‘Two key issues being that (1) the carpark building will be demolished (before being rebuilt in part causing much disruption to the downtown area) and (2) he estimates that the deal will net the council only ~$50M. So Auckland rate payers will be considerably worse off – a rush on the deal could cost ratepayers over $130M!
‘Auckland City Council should stop the sale and put the property back on the market to get a proper and fair price for ratepayers that also retains critical downtown car parking spaces.’
