A 22-year-old Vietnamese man has pleaded guilty to altering someone else’s New Zealand passport to make it appear his own and impersonating an Immigration NZ employee in order to scam Vietnamese migrant workers seeking visas.
Khoi Quang Dinh used the counterfeit passport and a fake Immigration NZ ID card hidden in his phone case to gain trust and convince applicants to pay him for assistance and application fees, police said.
Investigators began looking into Dinh in March, and a search warrant in August uncovered the fraudulent documents.
Dinh entered guilty pleas via audiovisual link at the Blenheim District Court on Monday, and Judge Bill Hastings ordered a full pre-sentence report before transferring the case to Hastings for sentencing on February 17.
Sorry chum, unless you are a rich billionaire, there’s no gaming NZ’s shady immigration system. Nice try though.
Deport now!!
