A Waikato police officer is facing criminal charges after allegedly fracturing a man’s ribs and elbow during an arrest on June 8 last year in Hamilton and then filing a false report to misrepresent the force used.
The officer appeared in Hamilton District Court last week, where he was granted interim name suppression and remanded without entering a plea.
He faces charges of injuring with reckless disregard and attempting to pervert the course of justice, both carrying a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment.
An internal police employment process is ongoing, and the Independent Police Conduct Authority has been notified.
Police declined to comment on the complainant’s condition.
The IPA is not independent and has consistently shown bias in favor of outcomes for Police Association members.
NZ public need a truly independent and balanced system for holding Police accountable for using too much force and arbitrary decisions resulting from personal paradigm and ideological beliefs rather than applying an unbiased law.
Agree. When you see the police joining ideological marches, you know that this is corruption.
