Nominations have opened for a new local body election in Auckland’s Papatoetoe subdivision after a judge overturned the previous result.
In December, Manukau District Court Judge Richard McIlraith ruled October’s election for the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board invalid after finding serious irregularities, including 79 ballot papers cast without voters’ knowledge.
Auckland Council says nominations will remain open until midday on 28 January, with four seats to be filled.
Voting is scheduled for March, with results expected in April. Candidates must meet eligibility rules set at the time of the original election, including citizenship, age and enrolment requirements.
